Assam Hosted 2.44 Crore Visitors in the Past Four Years, Now Ranking Among India’s Top Five Fastest-Growing States
Assam’s tourism sector has witnessed remarkable growth over the past four years, with nearly 2.44 crore tourists, including over 60,000 foreign travelers, exploring the state's diverse landscapes and cultural heritage. This marks a significant rise in Assam’s tourism appeal, attracting visitors to its natural wonders, revered temples, and vibrant cultural sites.
According to official Assam tourism records, 17 lakh domestic and 1,231 foreign tourists visited the state in 2021-22. The numbers saw a massive surge in 2022-23, with domestic arrivals soaring to 98.12 lakh and foreign tourist visits rising to 18,946. While 2023-24 witnessed a slight dip in domestic tourism, with 70.41 lakh visitors, foreign arrivals continued to grow, reaching 26,129. By December 2024, Assam had already welcomed 57.48 lakh domestic and 14,000 international tourists, reaffirming its position as a thriving travel destination.
Known as the land of the Red River and Blue Hills, Assam is renowned for its rich biodiversity, unique traditions, and world-famous tea. Among the state's many attractions, Kamakhya Temple remains the most visited site, drawing over 41 lakh travelers, followed by Dhekiakhuwa Bor Namghar. Kaziranga National Park, Srimanta Sankardeva Kalakshetra, Umananda, and the Assam State Zoo also remain popular among visitors seeking Assam’s natural beauty and cultural splendor.
With rapid economic growth and substantial investments in tourism infrastructure, Assam is carving a niche as one of India's top travel destinations. The rising influx of tourists reflects its growing appeal, offering travelers an immersive experience amidst its timeless heritage and breathtaking landscapes.
